sunn 0))) will be heading to the Midwest for the first time in quite a while, playing shows in many cities and states they have not been to before.
The lineup for these Midwestern sonic rituals will be:

Seismic Emanations Fest III:
(William Feedenbacker’s dream continues)

Seismic Emanations Fest makes its third annual occurrence and has another promising lineup to offer for our Portland friends of the heavy, smoky, and psychedelic. Past festivals have featured such NW favorites as: Van Can’s Mendozza, SF’s Floating Goat, and Portland’s own El Cerdo, Roanoke, and Diesto. The mission is simply to find some of the Pacific Northwest’s finest doom, sludge, stoner rock, and psychedelic acts and enable them to congregate at some of Portland’s finest venues. The focus is on simplicity and providing quality music at an affordable price. This becomes even more apparent at this year’s event; it will consist of two five band events at $5 a piece. Both nights will be 21 and over with ID.

On this year’s lineup are such up and coming artists as Aranya and Stoneburner, as well as festival veterans, Facepilot and Mongoloid Village. It will also be a time to welcome and to mourn. It will be the premiere appearance of Figures in the Light and a final farewell for Paranaut.

Stoneburner- Boasting members of the legendary Illinois molasses doom band, Buried at Sea and Portland’s thrash/crust act, Buried Blood. Cull- Not so much a supergroup, but Cull is actually part of an incestuous family of great Portland bands. These members are/were parts of Anon Remora, Order of the Gash, Slam Dunk (with Authority), Sei Hexe, and Nanda Devi. Their impressive genealogy aside, they slice off honkin’ slabs of blackened doom, peppered with beautiful clean interludes. Three track E.P. is available on Eolian Records.

DJ Rock Thrower (aka DJ Yeti) will be spinning fine selections of rock and metal from 70’s to present between sets. As DJ Yeti (the metal DJ, that is), he has been a regular or guest dj at such places as O’Malley’s Saloon, Tonic Lounge, Tube, Ground Kontrol, and was featured in the first Seismic Emanations Fest in January 2007.

HEAVEN & HELL announce US Tour Dates....

HEAVEN & HELL TOUR DATES - North America
LOS ANGELES ‹ Heaven & Hell, the quartet of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice, will bring their wicked world tour to North America for a select number of shows this August. The band will start their summer headlining music festivals across Europe before bringing their macabre stage show of metal classics to North America starting on August 7 in Vancouver. Tickets for most shows go on sale the weekend of May 8. There will also be a presale for all shows, except Baltimore, beginning May 6 at 10AM local time. Coheed And Cambria will provide support on all shows except the Seattle date on August 8, which will feature Neurosis in the supporting slot.

On April 28, Heaven & Hell released their first album in 17 years THE DEVIL YOU KNOW and the highly anticipated set did not disappoint. Revolver Magazine declared it "an album of ageless metal anthems" and The Associated Press praised its "bone-crunching riffs and power chords that can loosen the phlegm in your chest." The band plans to mix in several tracks from THE DEVIL YOU KNOW into their set of Dio-era Black Sabbath classics.

Coheed And Cambria bring their unique blend of prog and metal as the supporting act on the tour. The band just released their Neverender box set. The 4-CD/5-DVD collection chronicles a series of 2008 shows where the band performed all four of their albums in the same city on consecutive nights.

Southern Lord Signs THE ACCUSED

Southern Lord Records is pleased to announce the signing of legendary Seattle splatter rock kings THE ACCUSED! Said label head Greg Anderson: "THE ACCUSED and guitarist Tommy Niemeyer were basically responsible for turning me onto hardcore/punk and underground metal. If it wasn't for me witnessing THE ACCUSED slay the audience -- and me -- in 1985 I may be writing this today!"

Added Niemeyer on joining the Southern Lord roster: "Because we are a pretty unclassifiable band, THE ACCUSED has had a rough time finding a label who really knows what this band is about; that our fans are all over the place demographically. Greg Anderson at Southern Lord is the guy who totally 'gets it' when it comes to THE ACCUSED. He knows exactly 'how metal' we are and 'how punk' we are and all the other weird shit in between that makes The Accused what it is: splatter rock. Hooking up with Anderson and the great staff of Southern Lord is the best thing that's happened with this band in a long time. It feels like THE ACCUSED are strapped onto a huge bottle rocket and Greg's about to light the fuse."

The band will enter the studio with uber producer Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis, Brutal Truth, Cattle Decapitation, High On Fire etc) to record 14 new tunes. Appropriately titled The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead, the release will mark their first full-length studio effort in four years. The band will be making several live appearances in support of their new opus, including a freshly announced slot at SuperSonic Festival in Birmingham England July 25, 2009 alongside Corrupted and Thorr's Hammer. HEAVEN & HELL release special edition CD/DVD through BEST BUY stores...

Heaven And Hell’s Upcoming release The Devil You Know, being released on April 28th will include a Special Edition DVD, exclusively through Best Buy. Best Buy’s website says that in addition to the 10 tracks you will get a DVD with “22 minutes of studio performances, interviews about making the new album, and other behind-the-scenes content”.

The first single from the album, entitled Bible Black is available for for download (in “Single Edit” format) or you can stream it from Heaven And Hell’s Myspace. I downloaded it from iTunes and I gotta say that I love it. Dio and the boys still have it in them. They keep it modern enough to still be relevant, yet still hold on to the roots of their sound. Dio and Sabbath fans alike are going to eat this up!

CANDLEMASS to perform entire "EPICUS DOOMICUS...." album....

Swedish doom metal legends CANDLEMASS will headline next year's Keep It True XIII festival, set to take place April 23-24, 2010 at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany. According to the organizers, the band will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the event by performing a very special two-hour show consisting of the entire "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" debut album with original singer Johan Langquist on vocals and a regular set featuring current frontman Robert Lowe.

Johan Langquist last performed with CANDLEMASS at the band's 20th-anniversary concert on March 31, 2007 at Stockholm, Sweden's Kolingsborg. CANDLEMASS performed with no less than seven (!) different vocalists — including the band's former singers Johan Langquist and Tomas Vikström, plus the group's latest addition, Robert Lowe of SOLITUDE AETURNUS. In addition to the concert footage, the DVD includes interviews with all the vocalists from that evening as extra material.

SUNN O))) is proud to present their 7th studio album, after 10 years of existence, entitled Monoliths & Dimensions. The album showcases the core guitar duo - Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson - incorporating influences from a plethora of guest musicians, bringing the SUNN O))) sound to epic new levels. The band also collaborated with composer Eyvind Kang (notable for his work with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, etc.) on various acoustic ensembles, in addition to the Helios fueled electric guitars and basses. Key players on the album include Australian guitar genius Oren Ambarchi, enigmatic Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Tormentor, etc.) and slow music godfather Dylan Carlson (Earth), as well as Julian Priester (worked with Sun Ra in the 50s, John Coltrane’s African Brass band, and Herbie Hancock’s Sextant band) and new-music horn player Stuart Dempster. There’s also an upright bass trio, French & English horns, harp & flute duo, piano, brass, reed & strings ensembles, and a Viennese woman’s choir led by Persian vocal savant Jessika Kenney.

The album is not "SUNN O))) with strings" or "metal meets orchestra" material. The band took an approach concentrating on more of allusion toward the timbre of feedback and the instruments involved, so the piece is really illusory, beautiful and not entirely linear, stating that the end product is "the most musical piece we’ve done, and also the heaviest, powerful and most abstract set of chords we've laid to tape" The album was recorded and mixed by Randall Dunn & Mell Dettmer at various points over the last 2 years, and will be released late May 2008. Monoliths & Dimensions is practice in density, gravity and momentum.

Heaven & Hell Feeling Devilish On New Album

Heaven And Hell, the band featuring the post-Ozzy Osbourne members of Black Sabbath, will release its first album under that name, "The Devil You Know," April 28 on Rhino.

The set is Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice's first studio release since the 1992 Sabbath album "Dehumanizer," and was preceded by three new songs on the recent compilation "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years."

Song titles include "Bible Black," "Rock & Roll Angel," "Breaking Into Heaven," "Atom & Evil" and "Eating the Cannibals."

Iommi told Billboard last summer that "it really is Black Sabbath, whatever we do," but said the artists had chosen to tour as Heaven And Hell "so everyone knows what they're getting [and] so people won't expect to hear 'Iron Man' and all those songs. We've done them for so many years, it's nice to do just all the stuff with did with Ronnie again."

As for Osbourne, he is gearing up for the debut later this year of a new Fox variety show with his family, "Osbournes: Reloaded."
